West Hills
West Hills is a lovely residential and commercial neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. Known as Mission San Fernando during the Spanish occupation the city has many historic landmarks as a testament to its past. Among these are four sites awarded Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument status; three ranches and the estate of a silent film star.
One of these sites that is popular is the Shadow Ranch Park includes picnic areas, a playground, football and soccer fields, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, and meeting rooms. The Ranch was once owned by an Australian who imported and planted eucalyptus trees on the property. Some claim that all of the eucalyptus trees in the state came from these groves. Another spot is the Orcutt Ranch Horticultural Center that includes the Orcutt estate that dates to the 1920s. There are self-guided tours of the adobe house, gardens and orchards and it is a popular spot for weddings and special events.
This city offers a wide variety of housing choices from large estates to affordable single family homes. There are homes on more than an acre of land, houses with breath taking views of the mountains, and lovely homes with lushly landscaped yards.
