About East Van Nuys

Van Nuys is a picturesque neighborhood in the San Fernando region of Los Angeles. The convenient location of the community and the local general aviation airport have made this a popular community for commuters. The Van Nuys Airport offers a bus services that provides frequent daily runs from the airport for the Los Angeles International Airport. This convenient location with a large parking area is used by many travelers from throughout the area. Interstate 405, the San Diego Freeway also runs through the area for additional convenience.

The community of Van Nuys is home to the government offices for the San Fernando Valley. The area is known for notable architecture such as the Van Nuys Courthouse, James C. Corman Federal Building, and Valley Municipal Building. The Municipal Court building received the Kaufman and Broad Award for Outstanding New Public or Civic Project design.

Local real estate includes upscale million dollar communities, affordable single family neighborhood, and condominium and townhouse complexes. Luxurious houses on gated estates with lush landscaping, swimming pools and tennis courts are available. There are also lovely developments with affordable homes of various styles and sizes situation on tree lined streets with well-manicured lawns. Well-designed condominium and townhouse communities offer well-appointed units and amenities for owners such as swimming pools, hot tubs, and workout facilities.

The Los Angeles Unified School District administers the public schools in the community. There are seven public elementary schools, a public high school, a preparatory school, and a continuation school. There is also a charter high school, the Charter High School of Arts. A number of private schools and academies are available as well.

Residents enjoy a number of parks and recreation facilities. The Van Nuys Recreation Area has a gymnasium, an auditorium, and a multipurpose community room. There are lovely picnic areas that provide tables and barbecue facilities, a playground, a lighted baseball diamond, lighted basketball, handball, and tennis courts, and a lighted soccer field. Delano Park also has an auditorium and gymnasium. Visitors enjoy a lighted soccer field, a lighted football field, lighted baseball diamond, and lighted basketball and handball courts. An open green space with tables is also available for picnics.

Nearby Sherman Oaks parks is also popular with a seasonal outdoor heated pool, auditorium, picnic area and playground, and lighted athletic fields. The eight court Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Tennis Facility is also located in this park. There is also a Senior Center with community and meeting rooms, two kitchens, an auditorium, banquet facilities, and shuffle board courts.

The conveniently located Sepulveda Basin is home to a model aircraft field and a large recreation area. The area has athletic fields, golf courses, a fishing lake, and a wildlife reserve. Bikers enjoy the Los Angeles River bicycle trail that runs through the area.

The Leo Magnus Cricket Complex is located in Woodley Park with four playing fields. It is considered the best such complex in the United States and is a popular destination for cricket players and observers.

Shoppers in Van Nuys will find an eclectic mix of department stores, specialty shops, and boutiques. Food stores and grocery markets are also plentiful and represent a wide variety of culinary choices. Residents also take advantage of a weekly Farmer's Market with seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as local crafts, baked goods, and other culinary delights.

Restaurants are abundant in Van Nuys. Every type of dining experience is conveniently located. It is easy to find you favorite cuisine, preferred dining experience, or a delicious take out option. Make a reservation for a fine dining experience, drop into a bistro or cafe for the dishes of your choice, or grab wings or a burger at a sports bar.

There is a lot to do in Van Nuys. The Japanese Garden, located in the Sepulveda Basin, offers visitors 6.5 acres of gardens to enjoy. Visitors enjoy the dry Zen meditation garden, a wet strolling garden with waterfalls, and lakes, and a tea house and garden. The garden is popular location for weddings and was used for the filming of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation where it represented plants on earth and was the location of Starfleet Academy.

Residents enjoy local events, a local theater with 16 screens, and a vast array of entertainment choices in surrounding areas. Concerts and live performances that cover a wide variety of interests are close by.

Van Nuys is a lovely community that offers residents convenience, amenities, and warm and welcoming neighborhoods.
