West Los Angeles, most often referred to as West L.A., is an area in the west side of Los Angeles. The region is a hub of commercial development and includes residential neighborhoods and numerous apartment complexes and large residential towers. Easy access to nearby freeways makes commuting to downtown Los Angeles and other surrounding areas convenient.
Housing options in the region are varied. There are affluent neighborhoods, single-story tract house developments, apartment complexes, and tall residential towers. The myriad of styles and types of housing lend themselves to individual preferences and budgetary requirements.
Residents can enjoy activities at the Stoner Recreation Center. There is a water park, barbecue pits, picnic areas, lighted basketball courts, a lighted baseball field, lighted tennis courts, a lighted soccer field and football field, an indoor gymnasium, and playground.
The region is part of the Los Angeles school district and West L.A. is served by two public elementary schools, two public middle schools, and two high schools. To illustrate the importance of the film industry in the area, a local high school that has kept its traditional look because it was not rebuilt due to earthquakes, is often used as a shooting location, even when school is in session. Four private schools are also in the region and Pacific States University, an undergraduate and graduate institution, is nearby.
Restaurants and shopping venues are abundant in the area. Those looking to dine out in West L.A. will find a vast array of choices to match almost every taste and budget. There are ethnic restaurants, fine dining experiences, and casual eateries. Shopping options in West L.A. include a large mall with 150 stores and two department stores. Nearby shopping experiences include Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and Century City Shopping Center in Westwood.
