About Walnut

Scenic Walnut sits between the steep mountains of San Jose Hills and the gentle Puente Hills in the southestern part of Los Angeles County. Just 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the city of Walnut is located among three interstates, providing easy access to four counties.

Walnut's history dates back to the early 1800's, when it was primarily used for grazing by the cattle and sheep. Spaniards introduced the concept of ranches and began agricultural development and building homes. Walnut originally got its name because of the Rancho De Los Nogales land grant – Nogales is the Spanish word for walnit.

History is important to the city of Walnut's residents and leaders. To preserve their history the Bicentennial Commission constructed Lemon Creek Park and commissioned the restoration of the William R. Rowland Adobe Redwood Ranch House. The ranch house is one of the few remaining original ranch-style redwood and adobe structures in the area. It sits on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Walnut is home to about 30,000 people in its nearly nine square miles. They enjoy its lush open space and neighborly atmosphere. It boasts miles of meticulously maintained trails and 90 acres of beautiful park land. With eleven parks within Walnut, there is always one convenient for its residents. It is easy to lose yourself in the scenic views, and you may even see a grazing cow or two off in the distance. The city also maintains sports leagues, recreational facilities, and leisure classes. One of the events that consistently draws the community together is the Walnut Family Festival. This celebration features a parade and lively fair.

This affluent community is known for its picturesque, hilly landscape, quiet neighborhoods, and quality real estate. It is no surprise Money Magazine names it one of “America's Best Small Towns.” The community consistently draws young professionals, retirees, and families looking to take advantage of the laid back atmosphere, convenient location, and real estate opportunities.

Walnut residential real estate consists mostly of single-family homes that range in size from 1,800 to 11,200 square feet. The rural charm is preserved with a well-defined master plan, allowing for 8,500 residences and over 600 businesses to serve their shopping, dining, and convenience needs. The value of Walnut real estate lies in its high-performing schools, extremely low crime rate, and pleasant blend of urban convenience and suburban lifestyle.

Children in Walnut are served by the prestigious Walnut Valley Unified School District. This includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. These schools perform well across the board and the high school was ranked as one of California's best high schools by U.S. News and World Report.
