About Santa Fe Springs

Santa Fe Springs is a prosperous residential community bolstered by light industry. Named for the famous Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad the city maintains exhibits and museums that reflect the importance of the railroad to the development of southern California. Considered one of the Gateway Cities it is located southeast of downtown Los Angeles. These cities are considered suburbs of Los Angeles and offer convenient and friendly neighborhoods, beautifully landscaped green space, and many amenities. Located just north of the Santa Anna Freeway the city of Santa Fe Springs embodies this exurb experience.

Originally a ranching and farming community the area quickly grew when oil was discovered in the area in the early twentieth century. When the wells dried up a number of light industries moved into the area that included car part manufacturers and aerospace and defense contractors, and the city continued to prosper. In fact, the city proudly boasts that it was the birthplace of the Shelby Cobra. Carroll Shelby created the famous car in a speed shop in Santa Fe Springs by redesigning an English car to create a British sports car with hot rod engine. A number of museums in the city celebrates this rich heritage. Visitors enjoy exhibits of farming and ranching equipment, antique car engines, and documents and photographs detailing the areas past.

This lovely community is made up of friendly family neighborhoods with affordable homes on landscaped and well maintained lawns with shaded patios, tree-lined streets, and sidewalks for evening strolls. Beautiful condominium and townhouse complexes are also available. Those shopping for real estate will find a wide variety of affordable housing styles and sizes to choose from.

Santa Fe Springs has two public elementary schools serving grades kindergarten through eight and a public high school. There are also two private elementary schools, three private middle schools, and two private high schools.

A number of parks exist throughout the city and offer residents inviting lushly landscaped lawns and gardens for recreation and relaxation. You can enjoy open and sheltered picnic areas, playgrounds, and wading pools. There are baseball fields, basketball, racquetball, and handball courts, and multipurpose fields. One park maintains a museum on the grounds and recently constructed a railroad exhibit featuring a 80 ton locomotive. These parks are a popular destination for locals and are often used for weddings, family gatherings, and birthday parties.

Other resources include an aquatic club that offers swimming lessons for all ages, water aerobics and recreational swimming. The Town Center Hall has a teen lounge that provide recreation as well as tutorial services. The neighborhood community centers offers meeting space, hosts senior citizen clubs, Cub Scout dens, immunization and flu clinics, and coordinates a food distribution program. The local library hosts a summer reading program, preschool story time, homework assistance, tutoring resources, and a student center with resources tailored to every grade level, and a reading club.

A local shopping center has been recently upgraded and is the main shopping destination for area residents. An abundance of grocery stores and markets are also at hand for locals to purchase fresh produce and eclectic ingredients for their favorite recipes. Another popular spot is the Santa Fe Swap meet with more than 600 vendors, an eclectic food court, and a beer court. Visitors spend hours in the California sunshine browsing the shops and enjoying a delicious meal. The venue is also crowded on weekends when it hosts live music and other local events.

Resident enjoy a myriad of choices when looking for a place to dine out. Restaurants offer a wide variety of food choices and environments. You will find steak houses, ethnic eateries, cafes, and diners. Other choices include coffee shops, bakeries, and a vast array of fast food establishments.

Entertain options are plentiful both in and nearby Santa Fe Springs. In addition to the local recreation options, many community sponsored events, and the nightlife at the Swap meet locals enjoy nearby theaters, music venues, and clubs

Santa Fe Springs offers inviting communities that provide warm and friendly retreats for residents. Enjoy a barbecue in your backyard, relax with a good book on the patio, or take the dog for a leisurely walk. This resident oriented community offers parks with recreation and leisure options as well as many programs that support locals of all ages. Shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities are plentiful and convenient. Those who choose to live here enjoy a supportive, fun-filled, family friendly community.
