About San Gabriel
San Gabriel is located in Los Angeles County. Its 4.1 square miles are bordered
by San Marino to the north, Temple City to the east, Rosemead to the south, and
Alhambra to the west. The history of San Gabriel dates back to 1771 with the founding
of the Mission San Gabriel Archangel. The city grew outward from the mission and
was incorporated in 1913. The city's motto became “A city with a Mission” and is
often referred to as the birthplace of the L.A. Metropolitan area.
There are a number of centers and offices located in San Gabriel that employ hundreds
of professionals. For those who commute, San Gabriel is an ideal location. Los Angeles
is a mere 15 minute drive and easily accessible with public transportation. Pasadena
is only 20 minutes away and home to many large employers.
San Gabriel has an abundance of interesting places to dine and shop. It is a foodie's

dubbed “The Great Mall of China” due to its numerous options for authentic and tasty

with roofs of Spanish-style tile. From fine jewelry to milk, booking a trip to getting
a manicure, you can find it all at this large shopping complex.
With attractive neighborhoods, rich historic core, and vibrant commercial sector,
San Gabriel is a city which calls to the young and old. It boasts four beautiful
parks for residents to enjoy. Plaza Park is a lush oasis with beautiful views of
the Mission. Roosevelt Park caters to families, featuring a fantastic playground,
picnic tables, and two lighted tennis courts. Smith Park attracts all ages with
a public pool, toddler play area, three picnic areas, and lighted athletic courts.
San Gabriel's largest park is Vincent Lugo. This picturesque paradise features lighted
trails, quaint bridges, an outdoor classroom, and sprawling open green space.
Though nearby to several larger cities with attractions, there is plenty to do right
in San Gabriel. The Mission hosts a museum building with historical exhibits and
religious and local artifacts and relics. Culture and entertainment abound at the
San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, which offers a rotating program of live plays and
events.
Throughout the year San Gabriel hosts an array of festive, family-friendly events.
Highlights include their annual Kids Day and the popular 4th of July parade. Each
year the parade concludes with a community-wide picnic feast and celebration. A
pancake breakfast, huge egg hunt, and the Turkey Trot or some others, to name a
few. San Gabriel is a community that revels in celebrating together.
The city of San Gabriel is served by the San Gabriel Unified School District. There
five public elementary schools, one middle school, and three high schools. Each
of San Gabriel's public schools have received the honor of being deemed a California
Distinguished School. Gabrielino High School was names as one of “America's Best
Public High Schools” by U.S. News & World Report. This distinction places it in
the top 2.8% of schools in the country.
