About Pasadena
Just ten miles Northeast of downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles
County. Probably most well-known for hosting the Rose Bowl football game and the
annual Tournament of the Roses Parade each New Year's Day.
Despite being well within the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, Pasadena is
considered the premier city in the San Gabriel Valley. Its strong economic base,
celebrating cultural, scientific, and educational institutions, along with numerous
shopping and dining establishments have given Pasadena a highly regarded profile.
The words pasadena is literally translated as “valley” in the Ojibwa Indian language.
Over time, though, it has been interpreted to mean “Crown of the Valley” or “Key
of the Valley.” This is why the official seal of the city contains both a crown
and a key.
Pasadena enjoys a prominence like few cities, provided by many examples of varied
and fine architecture and upscale neighborhoods. It is known as a repository of
Los Angeles history. A variety of character houses can be found within its limits.
Both Victorian and American Gothic, Craftsman, Bungalow, Spanish, English Tudor
are found in fine example of the passion Pasadena has for highlighting the beauty
of the forgotten. It is one element that marks Pasadena apart from its Westside
neighbors.
Pasadena neighborhoods have evolved for over 100 years. Each neighborhood has its
own distinctive personality and unique history. From the famous California Bungalows
in aptly named Bungalow Heaven to the breathtaking mansions in Madison Heights,
each distinct area offers a different Pasadena flavor. The neighborhoods in Pasadena
consist of:
• Bungalow Heaven
• Brigden Ranch
• Chapman Woods
• Cal Tech
• Garfield Heights
• Hastings Ranch
• Linda Vista
• Oak Knoll
• Orange Heights
• San Pasqual
• San Rafael
In addition to proximity to many attractions, the city of Pasadena itself offers
many popular shops and restaurants. In particular, Old Town Pasadena has a vast
array of shopping and dining opportunities. From divine boutiques and four-star
restaurants to major retail and cafes, nearly every budget and schedule is accommodated.
There are more than 100 restaurants and bistros and more than 200 specialty boutiques
