About Norwalk
Norwalk is a convenient suburb of the city of Los Angeles located just 12 miles
southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Originally an agricultural area with the largest
sugar beet farm in Southern California and a dairy farming area with a large cheese
factory the region eventually became primarily a residential community. Four freeways
cross the city borders making it a popular bedroom community. Commuters will find
easy access to the Santa Ana Freeway, San Gabriel River Freeway, Century Freeway,
and the Artesia Freeway. Bus and rail transportation is also readily available.
The community is composed of pleasant neighborhoods with affordable single family
homes on green lawns. There are developments with an open suburban feel and others
with houses situated on smaller lots with a cozy, urban vibe. Townhouse and condominium
complexes also offer well appointed units in varying sizes and offer residents lovely
surroundings with green space, patios, and convenient amenities.
An elementary public school serves the area as well as a public middle school, and
public high school. Numerous private schools are also available. The city is also
home to Cerritos College, a pubic community college offering degrees and certificates
in 87 area of study.
Residents enjoy the active Norwalk Arts and Sports Center. The Cultural Arts Center
hosts a wide variety of special events, offers classes for all ages, has a full
musical rehearsal facility, and an art gallery. The recreation center has an exercise
room with state-of-the-art equipment and provides sports and fitness programs for
all ages. They also sponsor youth and adult sports leagues. The town also has an
aquatic center with a heated pool that offers swimming lessons and open swimming.
Another popular destination is the local golf course. This par three, nine hole
executive course is a great place to learn to play golf or practice your game. The
teen center offers many workshops and activities as well as a strong school work
assistance program that strives to develop and improve study skills. Additionally,
a number of local parks offer welcoming picnic areas, playgrounds, athletic fields,
and walking trails.
Hikers, bikers, walkers, and joggers will find a wide range of trails of varying
lengths and difficulty. Some of the trails run along railroad Bedrooms, others wind
through mountains and canyons offering panoramic views that include the Pacific
Ocean, awe inspiring mountains, and the incredible Los Angeles skyline. Some trails
are also constructed for horse back riders as well
While primarily a residential community there are a wide variety of shopping and
dining choices for locals. There are eclectic restaurants, cafes, bistros, and fast
food options. Locals enjoy the local shopping plaza with an abundance of stores,
specialty shops, and boutiques. Hungry shoppers find delicious choices when they
break for lunch. Local pharmacies, grocery markets, and hardware stores are available
as well. The towns location opens up an endless list of other dining and shopping
options just a short drive away.
The small city of Norwalk, only about nine square miles, offers big amenities to
its residents. There are beautiful parks for rest and relaxation and recreation
programs that include sports leagues, classes and activities for everyone. A multitude
of trails beckon to those who want to exercise and those out for a leisurely stroll.
Shopping and dining are both eclectic and convenient and easy access to freeways
makes commuting a breeze. Friendly neighborhoods welcome residents home at the end
