About Harbor Gateway
The Harbor Gateway is a five square-mile, shoelace-shaped strip in the southern
part of Los Angeles. Flanked by Rosewood on the east, Gardena on the west and Torrance
to the south, this unique community offers the convenience of city-living at moderate
prices.
Harbor Gateway is known as the Shoestring Strip because of the long, slim shape.
It was compared to two shoelaces tied together with a granny knot. The neighborhood,
just a half mile wide in some parts, it's also referred to as the “city strip”,
or just as “the strip.”
Originally known as the Shoestring Strip, it was attached to Los Angeles in 1906
to serve as a link between Wilmington and San Pedro. It was given the name Harbor
Gateway in 1985.
Before World War II, the area consisted of nothing but open fields. The advent of
factories attracted employees that needed housing and those fields were filled with
homes.
Among the many choices for real estate in Harbor City are single-family homes, townhouses,
and co-ops. You have a wide range of options here, including new and nearly new
houses. Single-family properties with two, three and four bedrooms are the most
common.
A drive alone the tree-lined streets reveals these lovely family houses. Inviting
curb appeal, well-maintained lawns and landscaped public areas will delight those
looking for a mixture of urban sophistication and quiet communities.
With a large population of youth, Harbor Gateway is home to Gardena High School
and seven other schools. This small neighborhood is bisected by Artesia Blvd. and
boasts two active neighborhood councils.
A library, Rosecrans Recreation Center, and a newly built pocket park decorated
with colorful murals painted by local children will have you out and about enjoying
nature and your neighbors.
Plenty of dining choices abound. Whether you want to stop in to a familiar, popular
chain, indulge in an intimate dinner, or lounge in a family-owned cafe with a latte,
you can satiate your cravings locally.
You will delight in the short commute and easy access to freeways Harbor Gateway
offers. While most people prefer to drive their own car, public transportation is
also available.
The broad and diverse population provides many opportunities for enriching cultural
experiences. Local block parties are a norm in the summer, a great chance to get
to know and enjoy your new neighbors.
Whatever your budget, with so much to choose from among Harbor Gateway real estate
you are sure to fine the perfect home. Harbor Gateway's attractive, family-oriented
neighborhood will enchant you.
