About Glendora
Within San Gabriel Valley and nestled at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains lays
the affluent city of Glendora, California. Approximately 23 miles east of Los Angeles,
Glendora offers upscale suburban life with convenient access to big city amenities.
Founded in 1887 by George D. Whitcomb, Glendora's naming is an interesting story.
Whitcomb created the name by combining his wife's name, Leadora, with the location
of his house in a glen in the San Gabriel Mountains.
The city remained a small citrus-driven community until the 1950's when agriculture
was replaced by residential development. Today, that small community has grown to
over 50,000 thriving residents enjoying the suburban lifestyle in Glendora. The
small town values and charm are still very present.
Glendora is one of Southern California's most attractive residential cities. There
are a variety of homes nestled amongst mature trees, manicured lawns, and lush parks.
A troll through a peaceful Glendora neighborhood may reveal everything from a cozy
turn-of-the-century cottage to an opulent hillside estate.
Glendora real estate ranges from early 20th century bungalows to modest, ranch style
homes. Impressive multi-story levels and grandiose mansions can be found among Glendora's
most expensive neighborhoods as they sit back, secluded, and enjoying vistas across
the valley all the way to downtown Los Angeles.
Renown as the “Pride of the Foothills,” Glendora is a well-rounded community with
an impressive blend of residential and commercial real estate. The high standard
of living offered in the suburban neighborhoods is augmented with a thriving downtown
area called the Village.
This downtown are offers daily conveniences to residents, such as pharmacies and
dry cleaners. With many businesses here owner-operated, eclectic and boutiques and
specialty shops provide personalized service and interesting wares. Corporate headquarters
of major firms are also located here, contributing to the tax base and employment.
Glendora operates an extensive Parks and Recreation program which provides activities
in many of the city's beautiful parks. Wilderness areas and hiking trails are also
present in this friendly community. The lush parks are a popular setting in which
to enjoy the breathtaking views of the picturesque San Gabriel Mountains and foothills.
Quality education, both public and private, is one more positive attribute of Glendora.
The city's public schools are served by the Glendora Unified School District. This
district is considered one of the best in the state and even the country, consistently
ranked as top performing. Every school within the district is designated as a California
Distinguished School. There are five elementary schools, two middle schools, and
one high school in the public district.
Glendora offers a high standard of living with a diverse stock of real estate and
a consistently high-ranking school system. With a very low crime rate and convenient
access to Southern California attractions, your piece of idyllic real estate can
be found in Glendora.
