About El Segundo - Second to
None
El Segundo, in Spanish, means the second. So named for hosting the state's second
oil company in 1911, it's residents like to say their town is “second to none.”
Conveniently located just south of LAX and adjacent to the vast Pacific Ocean, this
quaint, intimate town is close to everything but buffered from the airport and major
industries that surround it. The small coastal community is as equally known for
it's charming, small town atmosphere as it is for the thriving business environment,
which caters to some very prestigious companies.
El Segundo is a very unique beach community. Unlike nearby beach cities, it offers
a quality of life similar to that found in small towns in the 1950's. It's residents
tout the easy-going, friendly atmosphere and the sense of security and safety it
lends itself to.
Upon arriving on Main Street, residents pass the noble brick high school, a popular
filming location, before rounding the corner to an independent cafe where locals
greet one another by name. In fact, El Segundo won an Eddy award for being the most
friendly city in L.A. County. The tall buildings mere blocks away are in strong
contrast, seemingly futuristic and flying ahead.
The studios that made movies in El Segundo in the 1930's may have paved the way
for some of today's highly rated shows and helped attract the young, artistic contingency
who is proud to call it home. The cinematic memories are preserved in the city's
breathtaking murals which compose a “heritage walk” of stepping stones personalized
from a vast array of people who love the quaint town.
Artists continue to be drawn to this ocean-side town. There are more artists, designers
and people who work in media in this small city than in 90 percent of U.S. cities.
This strong contingency of artists certainly helps shape the laid-back character
of the town.
The majority of homes in El Segundo offer two and three bedrooms. Some lucky homeowners
are positioned on beautiful buffs with glorious ocean views. The rest of El Segundo
residents live in homes built along mellow sloping land.
Those with children will be delighted by the schools. The El Segundo school district
boasts schools that place in the 80th to 90th percentile. El Segundo also offers
a library, senior center, swimming pool, gold course and half a dozen parks. Family
owned and fine dining restaurants can be found along with independent artists selling
their work and major retail chains.
El Segundo is a very popular place to buy a home because of the small town atmosphere,
proximity to the beach, and award winning schools. Ethnically diverse and culturally
rich, El Segundo is waiting for you to come claim your ideal Home.
