About Duarte
The City of Duarte is a charming community sitting at the foot of the majestic San
Gabriel Mountains. Affluent and equestrian Bradbury and historically charming Monrovia
are its neighbors to the north and west. To Duart's south lays the city of Irwindale.
Azusa borders this quaint city to the east.
Just 20 miles to the northeast of Los Angeles, Duarte is located along historic
U.S. Route 66 which follows Huntington Drive through the middle of the city. Each
year, Duarte holds a festive celebration and Salute to Route 66 Parade. This fun
event is held in late September right on Huntington Drive. This fun event is a favorite
of residents and tourists aloke.
With the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains serving as a picturesque backdrop to the
city and Los Angeles and other exciting cities nearby, Duarte is an ideal home for
those looking to take advantage of both natural surroundings and city amenities.
With only 6.8 square miles, the city of Duarte maintains a small-town atmosphere.
The feeling may be quaint, but there are plenty of services for its 21,000 residents
right in town. Unique shops, varied dining opportunities, health facilities and
more can be found within its limits. Those who do decide to venture out happily
find a fast and easy commute to many nearby attractions.
Duarte is home to a small, progressive community. Stable neighborhoods are home
to a richly diverse community of friendly neighbors. Many of these residents are
attracted to the many opportunities to venture outdoors and enjoy the natural environment
and pleasant weather.
Lush green foothills and hiking and biking trails are popular destinations. Many
take advantage of the hiking and biking trails that abound in Duarte. The livability
of the area is evident in the many parks and stunning new recreational gathering
places found here.
Most of Duarte's earliest pioneers came here in the mid 17th century for their health.
The optimal climate and fertile soil attracted those settlers as well, and enabled
Duarte to develop into a thriving agricultural community with citrus groves ever-present.
Today, good health is still a prominent feature of the community. Duart is home
to a world-renowned cancer research center. This nationally recognized hospital
is dedicated to improving the well-being of residents, both mentally and physically.
Students in Duarte are served by the Duarte Unified School District. The district
consists of five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Within
Duarte are also five private schools.
At the schools in Duarte, educators know students by name, and provide a warm, friendly
environment for students, parents, and staff. Many families move to the area in
large part for the stellar schools. They provide a broad, challenging curriculum
in a supportive atmosphere. The schools in Duarte benefit from involved parents
