Carson began as part of a Spanish Land Grant called Rancho San Pedro over 200 years
ago. During incorporation, it was named after George Henry Carson. Carson belonged
to the Dominguez family. It became a general law city in 1968. It was then that
the motto “Future Unlimited” was adopted.
Over the years Carson has grown to accommodate a thriving population of over 94,000.
Several annexations increased the size of the city to encompass 19.2 square miles.
This growth helped position Carson as a significant city and its assessed value
grew with it.
