About Carson

In the South Bay section of Los Angeles County is the city of Carson. It is bordered on the east by Long Beach, with Wilmington to the south, Harbor Gateway to the west, and West Compton to the north. This places Carson in a convenient and central location.

Many commuters find this ideal for an economical and fast commute. An easy 13 miles to downtown Los Angeles and just 14 miles to Los Angeles International Airport put Carson in an ideal location. Carson is often considered to be a superb of Los Angeles.

Carson began as part of a Spanish Land Grant called Rancho San Pedro over 200 years ago. During incorporation, it was named after George Henry Carson. Carson belonged to the Dominguez family. It became a general law city in 1968. It was then that the motto “Future Unlimited” was adopted.

Over the years Carson has grown to accommodate a thriving population of over 94,000. Several annexations increased the size of the city to encompass 19.2 square miles. This growth helped position Carson as a significant city and its assessed value grew with it.

Carson boasts 12 parks, four mini-parks, two public pools, two Aquatics Centers, a Skate Park, Boxing Center, and a Sports Complex. With such a variety of activities available, residents of all ages can find options of interest to them.

The Sports Complex, StubHub Center, includes a soccer-specific stadium used by the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Los Angeles Sol, and the C.D. Chivas USA. It also includes a tennis stadium and a track and field facility. The complex is even home to the United States men's national soccer team. Carson residents are proud and excited to have this amazing facility in their back yard.

Carson is home to SouthBay Pavillion Mall, a 1.1 million square foot regional mall. This mall is anchored by Ikea, Sears, and JCPenney. It includes 83 specialty stores and restaurants including other significant retailers like Old Navy and Foot Action.

Most areas of Carson are within minutes of a variety of restaurants, shopping areas, and grocery stores. The easy access to a vast array of dining and shopping opportunities is a convenience appreciated by residents.

One of the youngest cities in South Bay, Carson sparks the interest of many first-time home buyers. Recent developments and more projects on the horizon places Carson real estate in a favorable position for growth.

The majority of homes in Carson were built between 1940 and 1979, making for well established neighborhoods. That is not to say no newer homes can be found, as Carson also has an assortment of houses more recently built.

Carson real estate generally ranges from 1,000 to 1,800 square feet. However, both larger and smaller homes can also be found. Pricing here is very competitive for the area, partly responsible for the attraction of first time home buyers.

Carson's educational needs are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Schools in the area include Carson Senior High School, Eagle Tree Continuation High, Carson Street Elementary, and Bonita Street Elementary. With 43 percent of households in Carson having children, neighborhoods are family friendly and likely to have other children.

Carson is also the site of California State University, Dominguez Hills. This is a major commuter school and one of the most racially diverse campuses in the country.
