About Baldwin Park
Centrally located in the San Gabriel Valley, Baldwin Park is a lovely residential
community in Los Angeles County just 17 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Commuters
are drawn area due to it's proximity to Interstates 10 and 605. The city is named
for Elias J. “Lucky” Baldwin a large land holder known for his generosity, fairness,
and luck making money in mining and land investments. His ranch in the region was
enormous and he was the largest employer in Los Angeles County. His employees were
well fed and paid and he did not discriminate and provided jobs for many ethic groups.
He is probably most famous for founding the original Santa Anita Park race tract.
Nearby institutes of higher learning include Azusa Pacific University, Whittier
College, Mount San Anontio College, Pasadena City College, and East Los Angeles
College.
