About Artesia

Named for the many Artesian Wells that flow through the area, Artesia is a lovely suburb of Los Angeles. A well known landmark hovering over the city is a large Artesia Water Tower that holds 50,000 gallons of water. No records exist regarding construction of the well but the city is trying to have the site declared as a Historical Landmark. The city offers friendly neighborhoods with rich amenities and a welcoming respite after a long day at work. It is home to the EastWest Ice Palace owned by Olympian Michelle Kwan and is where former First Lady Pat Nixon grew up.

Those looking to relocate to the area will find a variety of lovely neighborhoods in Artesia with affordable housing opportunities. Developments with well maintained single family homes, beautifully designed condominium complexes, and neatly landscaped mobile home parks are among the options. Housing styles and sizes vary and you will find homes that reflect the Spanish style common in southern California, traditionally designed houses, and some that reflect the new modern look in architecture. Neighborhoods offer green lawns and shaded patios along streets that encourage an after dinner stroll. A number of condominium complexes exist throughout the city offering units of varying sizes surrounded by lovely grounds and amenities. There are well-designed and welcoming mobile home parks as well that offer residents amenities such as pools and club houses. Also, seniors will find 55+ condominium and mobile home communities.

Students in the town are served by ABC Unified School District. There are four public elementary schools, two public middle schools, and one public high school. Parents will also find a number of private schools to choose from.

Residents enjoy recreational, educational, and social activities for all ages coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department. The Department sponsors excursions, offers cultural programming, recreational classes and fitness courses. There are also youth and adult sports leagues and clinics and programs tailored for seniors and teens. Teen activities include activities such as ice cream socials, bowling and pizza parties and field trips. Seniors enjoy daily lunches, social groups and activities, field trips, and free transportation. Local parks offer beautiful green space with picnic areas, shelters, playgrounds, and athletic courts and fields.

There are many local attractions in the city to be enjoyed. The Pioneer Boulevard Fountains are located in the middle of the major thoroughfare and are a sight to behold. Locals go for a day of skating of lessons at the EastWest Ice Palace that includes an exercise room, locker rooms, a snack bar, and pro shop. The City Plaza offers exotic Asian food and the 'International' area offers even more eclectic food choices. There is also the Artesia Portuguese DES Hall that is an organization that promotes Portuguese pride and heritage. They maintain a local band and soccer club and sponsor activities throughout the year.

Dining options abound in Artesia. There are restaurants, cafes, and bistros representing a wide range of ethnic food options, traditional fare, and delicious dessert choices. It is equally convenient to grab a burger, slice of pizza, or a taco. Many enjoy strolling the eclectic shopping and dining experience called the “International and Cultural Shopping District”. You will find East Asian markets and eateries as well as a concentration of Indian-owned businesses.

Shopping opportunities in the city are diverse, providing a wide range of choices for an entertaining and productive shopping experience. Locals can take advantage of a variety of grocery markets that provide eclectic and traditional merchandise and ingredients for almost any recipe. The shopping district offers a mix of stores, specialty shops, and boutiques and nearby malls and centers meet all shopping needs.

The lovely city of Artesia offers welcoming neighborhoods, a beautiful setting, and convenience for residents. Locals enjoy parks that offer a lush destination for rest or recreation and can take advantage of a myriad of activities and classes coordinated by the parks and recreation department. The city boasts eclectic shopping and dining opportunities as well as beautiful fountains and landscaping.
