About Alhambra
Located less than ten miles from downtown Los Angeles to the East, Alhambra is considered
the “Gateway to San Gabriel Valley.” It is bordered by Monterey Park on the south,
San Gabriel on the east, and South Pasadena and San Marino on the north.

The town of Alhambra was named in the late 1800's. One of the town's prominent residents
bought a large piece of land. His ten year old daughter convinced him to name it
Alhambra after a book she had recently read. That book was “The Alhambra” about
the famous Moorish palace in Granada, Spain written by Washington Irving.
The moderate climate, mostly sunny days, and favorable location allow homeowners
to take advantage of nearby attractions. In town are a municipal golf course, two
city-run pools, and many classes. Alhambra also features a lively downtown area.
The streets here are brimming with unique shops and a variety of dining opportunities.
Weekends provide residents with live music and other street entertainment.

and cultural activities. Less than ten miles away lies downtown Los Angeles, full

Ocean. They are also within an hour and a half of snowy ski resorts or the desert,

one of Alhambra's four charming parks. Often used in movies and television, Alhambra,
Granada, and Story parks each boast their own swimming pool and recreational building.

these parks as well as school playgrounds.
Alhambra has a reputation for fine schools. The full-service city has four high
schools and 13 elementary schools. They offer quality education to Alhambra children.
